        RathaYatra means cart festival or car festival or chariot festival. Now this festival observes in many places but its origin is Puri, Odisha. The significance of this day is, the lord of universe comes out from his temple to visit (give darshan) his devotees. Non Hindus are not allowed to enter in temple so this is one day when all can see, worship and get blessings of lord without any barrier of caste or religion. This day is known as chariot festival or Rathayatra. In this day three deities (Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and MaaSubhadra) along with Lord Sudarshana come out from temple with great procession called as Pahandi-Bije. After riding on their respective temple shaped chariot (Ratha),devotees pull thesegiant carts from Badadeula to Gundicha temple. The name of the chariot of Lord Shree Jagannatha is Nandighosha, Lord Shree Balabhadra’s chariot name is Taladhwajaand Devadalana or Darpadalana is the chariot’s name of Lord Subhadra . The height of Nandighosha chariot is 45 feet and 6 inches and adorns with yellow and red combination of colored clothes. This chariot has 9 side idols and 4 white horses. The height of Taladhwaja chariot is 45 feet and adorns with green and red clothes with 9 side idols and 4 black horses. Similarly Debadalana chariot is of 44 feet and 6 inches height and adorns with black and red colored clothes and has side idols and 4 red horses. This is the annual visit of Gods to their aunt’s house. After the stay of 7 days in Gundicha temple on 8^th day the deities return back to main temple(Badadeula) with same rituals. This return journey is called Bahuda Yatra.This year Rathayatra is on 25^th of June and Bahudayatra is on 3^rd of July.This day so many people gather in Puribadadandato watch this. People from every corner of world come to Puri for this festival.

    Pana Sankranti, also known as Maha Vishuba Sankranti is the traditional New Year for Odisha people. This is the 1st day of month Baisakh. Baisakha is the 1st month in Odia calendar.  It almost always falls on 14 April every year.

     On this particular day, a small pot filled with is hung on a basil (Tulsi) plant. There is a hole at the bottom of this pot which allows the water to fall in drops from the pot. Sattu or chhatua, along with banana and curd, is consumed by the people of Orissa after offering it to the Tulsi plant.

     The festival is celebrated with visits to Shiva or Hanuman temples, as the day is considered to be the birthday of Lord Hanuman and also he is the manifestation of lord shiva on earth.[7]  Feasts and special drinks such as a chilled sweet mango-milk-yoghurt-coconut drink called Pana is shared.

      Ashoka Ashtami is the cart festival of lord Lingaraaj and Goddess Parvati(Bhubaneswar) in Odisha. This day is going to observe on 4th April of this year.This day is observed on the ‘Ashtami’ (8th  day) during the Shukla Paksha in the month of ‘Chaitra’. It falls during the auspicious ‘Chaitra Navratri’ festival. The word ‘Ashoka’ implies ‘one without sorrow’ and ‘Ashtami’ signifies ‘eighth day’. In this day the sorrows of Lord Rama were relieved by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati who is signifies as Shakti. According to the legends, before starting battle with Ravan, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to seek their blessings. Pleased with Lord Rama’s dedication, Goddess Parvati blessed him and Ravan was killed by Lord Ram. From then onwards this victory of good over evil is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by taking out a procession on the ‘Ashtami’ day of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
On this day people place the deity of Lord Lingaraaj(Chandra sekhara) and Goddess Parvati and take them to Rameswara temple with a great procession. This festival lasts for 7days. And with same procession deities took back to Lingaraaj temple..

P. Patro . After this movement newly Odisha formed with six districts namely Cuttack, Puri, Baleshwar, Sambalpur, Koraput and Ganjam having its capital at Cuttack.

      But now Odisha is having 30 districts and the capital is Bhubaneswar. On this eve the capital of Odisha is decorated as a bride. Very beautifully decorated with colorful lights. This day is celebrated as holiday and we recall the contribution of our freedom fighters.

      Maa Tarini is very famous and widely worshiped in Odisha. The Maa Tarini temple is in Ghatgaon (Kendujhar). There is a belief that if you give coconut and make wish then that will be fulfilled by Maa Tarini as Maa fond of coconut very much. Besides coconut, Hibiscus (red color), red bangles are also offered to Maa to make her satisfy. Maa Tarini is the symbol of sakti (power).

     The idol of deity is little different from other deities. The idol made up of only one stone (only face) with 2 eyes and nose and tilak in it. The face is red colored and slightly tilted to one side. From the very beginning the idol is like this and worshiped like this.

     There is a folk tale behind this temple. After kanchi war the King of Kalinga Purusottam Dev wanted to take Maa Tarini to his place. He gave this responsibility to his Senapati (general) Govinda Bhanja. He asked Maa for the permission to take. Maa accept his request with one condition that on his way she will follow him unless and until he looks back. If he looks back then Maa will not move from that place. He agreed with this. Then the journey started. The hoof sound of Maa’s horse is audible trough out the journey. But in the forest of Kendujhar Govinda Bhanja could not hear that sound. To become confirmed about Maa he looked back and that place the deity becomes a stone under a tree in Ghatgaon (present name of the place). This is the story about 1480. From that day she is worshiped in that place.

      Where ever you are in Odisha if you are giving coconut for Maa Tarini to any bus, he will never refuse for it. And your offers will reach to the place. This is a strange but true thing because of the belief and love of the people for Maa Tarini.
      Two famous festivals observe in Ghatgaon. One is Chaiti festival and another is Ashaadhi festival. Chaiti festival observes in Pana Sankaranti every year and this longs for 7days. Every day Maa adorns with gold ornaments and special puja are done at this time, like yagya, mangal alati etc. Ashaadhi observes in Ashaadha maasa (Rainy season in the time between June-July) last Thursday. This day Maa does fast for whole day for her devotees. So that day the temple remains close for whole day and in the evening Maa gives Darshan in Suna Besha(adorn with gold).

      There are so many stories behind this festival. One of them is about Hiranyakashyapu’s sister Holika. This day she died so that people celebrate this day as the victory of good on evil. To remember this day people do bonfire in night.
